The headless concept refers to an IT architecture in which the user interface (Frontend) is separated from the actual application (Backend).

Independence from the user interface

In the context of APIs, headless means that the API, i.e. the interface, can be created independently of the user interface and is thus more flexible in integrating with different frontend systems.

MACH principle, API-first, Best-of-Breed, Microservices, Cloud-native and interfaces are other concepts that are closely related to Headless and allow for a modularised, scalable and adaptable IT architecture.
