Crowdsourcing

In reference to the term outsourcing, crowdsourcing is understood as a form of division of labour and, in contrast to crowdfunding, goes beyond financial support.

Taxonomy

Crowdsourcing is the outsourcing of company tasks to third parties via internet. These tasks usually include product development, knowledge sharing, ideas and innovation. The public (crowd) can thus be asked for advice via certain platforms, which is often associated with a competition and an appropriate remuneration for the best idea.

Example

If a company is looking for a name for a new product, it can address itself to the crowd via special platforms. The user with the best proposal for a product name then receives the previously determined remuneration.
